ICE HOTEL – SWEDEN
This is Sweden’s most famous hotel. This temporary hotel is rebuilt every year in the small, remote village of Jukkasjärvi. It is carved by artists from around the World from huge ice blocks harvested from the local river. Spend a night in one of the unique rooms at -5oC. Don’t worry, you do have thermal sleeping bags and reindeer hides to keep you warm. The Ice hotel is open (and exists) from December to April each year.
GLASS IGLOOS (SNOW HOTEL) – FINLAND
Sleep under the stars in these fabulous glass roofed igloos. Sleeping with an uninterrupted view of the sky increases your chances of seeing the Northern lights. The igloos are comfortable and cosy with underfloor heating and heated glass. These fabulous igloos are set in the Artic wilderness next to the Snow hotel. There are also larger igloos available which are great for families.
ARTIC TREEHOUSES – FINLAND
The Artic Treehouse hotel has to be one of Laplands coolest hotels. It’s designer pods boast stylish Scandinavian designer interiors and a huge glass wall, providing great views of the glittering forest and winter sky beyond. These wooden cubes sit on stilts and blend seamlessly into the forest environment. Each pod offers luxury living and some of the family ones have two bedrooms, a fireplace and even a sauna.
AURORA VILLAGE CABINS – FINLAND
The cabins at Aurora Village are tucked away in a remote part of the forests of Inari county in Finland’s far North. Each cabin boasts a section of glass roofing above the cosy beds, so the northern lights can be spotted whilst you are tucked up under the covers. The hotel offer an alarm service you can sign up to, which tells you when the lights have appeared.
AURORA DOME – FINLAND
This is glamping at it’s best! Nestled between a lake and a forest on the edge of a reindeer farm. These incredible domed tents have a transparent wall so you can enjoy the views. Stoke up the woodburner and curl up in the warm bed and you have found the perfect spot for gazing across the wild landscape and searching for the elusive Northern Lights.
KAKSLAUTTANEN – FINLAND
The original Lapland igloo resort. Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort sits in the wilderness high above the Arctic Circle. Nestled within a pine forest It is home to the igloo village. Each igloo is a thermal glass dome offering great views of the sky and a cosy and warm space. A great place to relax and watch out for the Northern Lights.
GOLDEN CROWN LEVI IGLOOS – FINLAND
Golden Crown Levi Igloos is located a short drive from Levi ski resort. So it is a great option if you want to combine a stay with some days on the slopes. The igloos here are luxurious and have private bathrooms. Some even have kitchens, lounge areas and outside jacuzzi’s on the terrace. All share one thing in common, glass ceilings and fantastic views over the dramatic landscape and the sky so you can look out for the Northern Lights.
TREEHOTEL – SWEDEN
Wow, these really are the most unique hotels rooms around. Perched amongst the tall pine trees of a Northern Swedish forest, each of the Treehotel‘s treehouses are totally unique. Stay in a mirrored cube, bird’s nest, suspended log cabin or spaceship, each suspended in the trees blending in perfectly with the forest surroundings.
JAVRI LODGE – FINLAND
Once a winter retreat for Finland’s president, Javri Lodge is now a luxurious, adult only, boutique hotel This stunning wooden chalet is set just outside Saariselka, Finlands most Northerly ski resort and just 30km from the Russian border.
