The Ghan is considered one of the truly great train journeys and takes you deep into the heart of the Australian outback through dramatic landscapes and gives you access to parts of Australia rarely seen on conventional holidays.
The original passengers of the first train in 1929 would not recognize the Ghan today, which has been transformed with luxurious interiors and spacious cabins, with exceptional levels of service and even the option to book your own private carriage.
The Chairman’s carriage offers a private sanctuary for family or friends where eight people have two double cabins and two twin cabins plus their own private dining room, kitchen and lounge and the carriage comes with your own personal staff.
Embark – Adelaide / Disembark – Darwin (3 days / 2 nights)
This is the longest train journey with twelve nights onboard Russia’s premier luxury train, the Golden Eagle. This fabulous train is an hotel on wheels where you can relax in comfortable luxury and enjoy views of the passing countryside, through panoramic windows, whilst enjoying delicious cuisine and listening to a pianist playing Tchaikovsky.
All cabins are comfortable but for the most discerning of travellers there are the spacious Imperial suites with double beds, separate lounge area and bathroom with large picture windows. Guests staying in Imperial suites can enjoy a complimentary bottle of Dom Perignon on arrival.
The changing landscapes are dramatic, from the climb through the Ural mountains (the boundary between Europe and Asia), to the wide open steppes and broad rivers, travelling on the Trans-Siberian is the best way to absorb the vastness and grandeur of the world’s largest country. If you fancy a break from the scenery you can take Russian language lessons or enjoy the bar, which doesn’t close until the last person leaves.
