The Canaries best designer boutique hotels
The Canary Islands are a popular destination for families and winter sun. You may not think of them as having chic, designer hotels so you may be happy and surprised that if you look hard you can find some cool places to stay.
These hotels are all smaller, more intimate places aimed predominantly at adults. If you are looking for larger resort style hotels or hotels for a luxury family holiday ask Paul about other options.
KAMEZI BOUTIQUE VILLAS, LANZAROTE
Kamezi is a small luxury villa resort in a stunning location, sandwiched between the slopes of an ancient volcano and the Atlantic ocean. Like a small village, this selection of individually designed villas are built with traditional materials and fit in perfectly with the surrounding landscape. Choose from a range of lovely villas, from two to five bedrooms. Villas come with manicured gardens, private pools and some with frontline ocean views. Kamezi’s villas are a great option for people wanting that little extra privacy and space. Each villa has a kitchen but if cooking on holiday is not your thing, the restaurant offers top quality dining all day and evening.
LANI’S SUITES DE LUXE, LANZAROTE
Lani’s is a carefully designed hotel with clean lines, whitewashed walls and breath taking ocean views from the pool, restaurant and every terrace and suite. This is an all-suite hotel so no tiny rooms here. All 25 suites are elegantly designed and fitted out with luxury amenities. Each of the spacious suites offer stylish, bright and airy interiors with balconies overlooking the lovely terraced pool area and ocean beyond. Some of the suites even boast private outdoor jacuzzi’s. The hotel has a fabulous restaurant where you just have to try the locally caught seafood. After dinner relax under the stars by the pool and try out some of the hotels wide ranging champagne list.
SAN ROQUE BOUTIQUE HOTEL, TENERIFE
This unique hotel brings tradition and history together in this stylish converted 18th century mansion. This small boutique hotel has only 18 rooms, all uniquely designed and decorated. It is situated in Garachico, one of the islands prettiest villages that still boasts local, traditional charm. This is a world away from the purpose built resorts on the coast. This immaculately restored traditional Canarian building is set around a pretty courtyard that houses the hotel pool. A quiet and restrained space for your ultimate relaxation. Many original features of the building have been retained and combined with lots of contemporary art and luxurious facilities to create a tasteful and welcoming space.
BOHEMIA SUITES, GRAN CANARIA
One of only two design hotels on the whole island. This adult only hotel is an oasis of style and tranquillity in the heart of the islands main tourist hot spot. The hotel see’s itself very much as a wellness retreat and they offer a comprehensive health and recovery program, where guests can combine nutrition, treatments and exercise. They have a really excellent full service spa and wellness centre. The rooms are cool and contemporary but I would recommend upgrading to a suite for a bit of extra space. The top floor 360o restaurant is a great place to take in the views and enjoy delicious meals created by award winning chefs. After dinner relax with a cocktail in adjoining lounge. The beach is a short walk away from the hotel as is the nightlife of Playa Del Ingles.
LA ISLA Y EL MAR, LANZAROTE
This is an exclusive adults only oasis of calm. The hotel stylish hotel design combines local black volcanic rock and contemporary sleek lines. The hotel is set over various different levels on a gentle slope overlooking the lovely pool and the ocean beyond. Although not on the beach it is just a short five minute walk and also close to the shops, bars and restaurants of central Puerto Del Carmen. This is another all-suite hotel. All the 81 suites have ocean view but make sure you ask for one on a higher level to get the best view. The suites are spacious, particularly the deluxe ones that also come with an outdoor jacuzzi and two bedrooms. The sophisticated Gourmet Club is the hotels main restaurant and the food is excellent as are the ocean views. The pool bar and terrace are a great place to relax with a cocktail or two and enjoy the gentle evening breeze.
BAHIAZUL VILLAS, FUERTEVENTURA
The Bahiazul villas look like they are straight out of a glossy design magazine. These chic Hollywood style villas offer exceptional design and the ultimate in privacy. Each villa has bright white, modern interiors and their own courtyard with tropical garden and pool that affords complete privacy from prying eyes. The rooftop terrace is a great place to relax in the jacuzzi or Bali bed and enjoy the sweeping views. This is also where the al fresco dining area and bbq is situated. there are three types of villas but if you want the best then go for the high end Royal villas. You will need a car though, as the villas are tucked away on the outskirts of Corralejo, about a five minute drive from the beach and town centre. The stunning desert landscape of the Dunes National Park is adjacent to the villas. If you venture out of your villa you can dine at the resorts restaurant, or enjoy a drink at the Bikini club. There is also a spa onsite with plenty of relaxing treatments available, plus a small but well equipped gym for the more energetic guests.
